FRAME Technology
This construction forms the base
of most Petzl harnesses: ADJAMA,
LUNA, SAMA, SELENA, CORAX,
MACCHU and OUISTITI. The waistbelt
and leg loops are formed by joining
webbing along the center of a wide
layer of foam. The load is distributed
by the webbing that is surrounded
by foam. This construction allows for
excellent durability and comfort when
hanging for long periods on a climb.
MATRYX
®
Technology
This construction is composed of
woven HMPE strands that lay across
the entire surface of the harness, with
special strands interwoven in specif ic
areas. This process is made possible
with high-performance MATRYX
fabric. It allows the waistbelt and leg
loops to be exceptionally low-prof ile,
lightweight, and f lexible, so the
harness moves seamlessly with the
climber, practically unnoticeable when
worn. Special weave patterns on the
hips and back of the thighs provide
added comfort and support for
hanging in the harness and carrying
gear. MATRYX technology used for
the WHISPER harness is minimalistic,
pushing the limits of compact and
lightweight design without forgoing
comfort.
FUSEFRAME Technology
This construction uses thin
thermoformed foam and doubled
interior webbing for greater comfort
and lightness. This gives the
harnesses a smooth and clean exterior
surface without adding thickness,
for improved abrasion resistance.
FUSEFRAME technology gives
the HIRUNDOS, AQUILA, and FLY
harnesses (removable foam)
a clean, smart design that is light
and comfortable.
WIREFRAME Technology
WIREFRAME technology uses HMPE
strands. These strands are used in
the waistbelt and leg loops to optimally
distribute pressure, ensuring maximum
comfort and freedom of movement
for the climber. This construction gives
this technical harness an exceptional
weight-to-comfort ratio. WIREFRAME
technology, applied to a very sleek
design with very slim technical lines,
is perfectly suited to SITTA and
ALTITUDE harnesses.
Petzl Harness Technology
For certain climbing and mountaineering harnesses, Petzl uses special technologies:
MATRYX, WIREFRAME, FUSEFRAME, and FRAME. These constructions are adapted to different
expectations that climbers may have, whether you’re just starting out, an active climber,
or looking for high performance.
Harnesses for mountaineering and ski touring:
• Weight and bulk are minimized
• Practical to put on while wearing crampons or skis
Designs for different body types:
• With adjustable leg loops, suitable for most body types
and all seasons (winter and summer use)
• Without adjustable leg loops, making it lightweight and optimizing
freedom of movement
• Women’s harness with angled waistbelt and an adapted rise
and waistbelt-to-leg-loop ratio
Capacity to carry gear suited to the activity:
• For gym climbing, via ferrata, glacier travel, or classic
mountaineering, two gear loops are suff icient
• For single pitch or big wall climbing, four gear loops are necessary
• For activities requiring a lot of gear, such as trad climbing, technical
mountaineering, or ice climbing, a f ifth gear loop is more practical
Petzl harnesses are designed to meet the needs of all those who play in the vertical world,
whether it’s for climbing, mountaineering, via ferrata, canyoning, or caving.
We offer a variety of models suited for different body types and different uses.
