Repairability Focus On a Few Key Figures From 2024
Packaging — A Major Step Towards Zero Plastic
For the past five years, we’ve been committed to an ambitious project: eliminating plastics from all our packaging. This time,
the packaging for our VERTEX and STRATO professional helmets have been completely redesigned with sustainability in mind.
After years of research, we’ve implemented a plastic-free packaging solution. The new design replaces a plastic protective
cover with a removable sheet made of virgin fiber paper, which is 100% recyclable. The reinforced packaging is open on the sides
so customers can see the helmet color and the shelf display function has been updated. We also improved the stackability of the
packaging, reducing volume by 30% during shipping.
Our helmet packaging went from using 12 metric tons of plastic to using zero plastic — saving approximately 92 metric tons
of CO
2
per year.
Spare Parts
You can now visit this section on the Petzl website to find
a complete list of available spare parts, including detailed
descriptions and product compatibility. Depending on the part
and product category, there are two ways to access spare parts:
• Order spare parts directly: Approximately 80% of parts are
available to resellers on the Petzl Dealer website, or through
an authorized distributor for end users.
• Parts that require confirmation by our After Sales team: for safety
or compliance reasons, certain parts are not available for direct
order. For PPE (Personal Protective Equipment), it’s crucial to
ensure that you’ve selected the correct spare part and that it
is installed correctly.
The RIG Is Now Repairable!
Petzl is now working to identify which components experience the
most wear during the product design phase to make future repairs
easier. The new RIG descender is a perfect example — it’s available
in a repairable version. To meet the demands of intensive use and
provide a more sustainable solution, the cam and axle can now be
replaced using a repair kit (sold separately).
Extending the Usable Life
One key objective of our spare parts program is to extend the usable life of our products. Please note, this does not refer to extending
the maximum lifespan of a piece of equipment. Instead, it means that by replacing a worn or broken part on a product, we can avoid
throwing out a product that can still be made functional.
Repairability is a major challenge today, as we strive to consume less and extend the lifespan of products.
At Petzl, we’ve implemented a repair program that includes easier access to spare parts and repair services.
But we’ve taken it a step further: with the new RIG descender, repairability was built into the very heart of its design.
Our Commitment to Sustainability Giving Materials a Second Life Reducing Plastic Packaging
Since 2024, 21 tons of
rope scraps have been
given a second life — either
transformed into recycled
nylon or used as padding
material.
Each year, Petzl invests
1% of its revenue to
reduce its environmental
impact and make
its operations more
sustainable.
100% of our industrial waste is now
repurposed.
We reduced our plastic packaging by
70 tons, from 80 tons in 2021 to 10 tons
in 2024.
