Choosing a Petzl headlamp means selecting a work tool designed to withstand the most severe conditions of use
while providing maximum reliability:
Each model must pass particularly stringent tests:
- For shock resistance, fall resistance, and crushing (including at low temperatures)
- For functional reliability (mechanical endurance)
- Individual inspection and test at the end of the assembly line (final quality check)
- For water resistance

Protection Against External Mechanical Impacts: IK Protection Index
The IK rating, as defined by the IEC 62262 standard, indicates the degree of protection against external mechanical impacts.
In other words, the impact resistance of a product. The rating is composed of two numbers, each corresponding to a level of protection.
The IP Protection Index

Level of protection against solid objects
Level of protection against liquids
A headlamp’s resistance to solids and/or liquids is indicated by its IP rating.
This index classifies the level of protection offered by equipment against intrusions by solids
(e.g. dust) and liquids (e.g. water, oil) according to the IEC 60529 standard.
