3 - Deployment
For several months, the goal has been
to distribute the tool to as many team
members as possible, in order to make
it standard procedure for all product
development. Despite being easy to use,
robust, and reliable, the last ingredient
for a successful deployment is effective
training. Multiple introductory sessions and
trainings were offered to teams at the end
of 2023, and more sessions are being held
on a regular basis in 2024.
Training materials, also developed internally,
cover all the different stages of the
process, key concepts such as various
environmental indicators, all inbound factors
that we study and their categorization
(units), as well as questions about regulatory
compliance or consistency with internal
Petzl processes and strategy. The training
also covers the tool’s limitations and ideas
that have been proposed for continuous
improvement and open collaboration
among teams.
As Responsible Purchasing Coordinator,
my role is to support CSR projects that
pertain to our buyers. I work alongside
our Eco-Design Project Manager to
meet objectives to reduce our carbon
emissions. This role relies on external
and internal collaboration. Externally,
we seek out producers of lower-impact
materials and test them with our direct
suppliers. Internally, we mobilize all
the expertise needed to assess these
proposals. More than 80 SKUs are
currently being assessed, which is
a key step to integrate new materials
and lower the carbon impact of our
products. I also play a supporting role
in overseeing CSR risk management
in our value chain. All of this takes time,
especially with new regulations in place,
but it’s an important part of innovating,
leaning on our collective intelligence,
and f inding alternative solutions.
