MOUNTAINS AND SCIENCE
Mountains and high-altitude
environments have long been areas for
scientif ic research and experimentation.
In 2023, we supported the “Écologie
verticale” project from the Laboratory
of Alpine Ecology in Grenoble. Their goal
is to better understand the history of high
mountain plant species in the face of past
climatic f luctuations.
We have also contributed to funding
an ambitious study carried out by the
Université d’Innsbruck in Austria, on caves
in northeastern Greenland. The goal of the
study is to gather limestone samples from
deep within the caves in order to study
changes in climate during a warmer period.
Finally, to help share this information and
attract people to the mountain science
professions, for the last ten years, we’ve
supported Rencontres montagnes et
sciences (Meeting of Mountains and
Science). This organization screens f ilms
about scientif ic exploration at over a dozen
festivals in France and Switzerland.
In 2023, we dedicated €25,000 to these three projects.
THE PETZL FOUNDATION
The Petzl Foundation helps those
in marginalized communities, in
the process of social reintegration,
or af fected by illness to explore
mountains and the vertical world.
We support conferences, exhibits,
and scientif ic programs to help
share the latest information
around high-altitude environments.

World
LA MONTAGNE PARTAGÉE (SHARING
THE MOUNTAINS)
The mountains allows organizations to
bring comfort and a new start for people
excluded from society.
The Petzl Foundation supports programs
from six organizations that work provide
access to mountain recreation (82-4000
Solidaires, En passant par la montagne and
Les Enfermés dehors), help young people
integrate back into society after being in
prison (Le Seuil) and integration into the
professional world for young people from
working-class neighborhoods (Projets en
cimes and Sport dans la ville).
In 2023, €51,000 was given towards these programs.
THE HEALING POWER OF NATURE
Physical activity and connection with
nature have therapeutic affects recognized
by many scientif ic studies. Bivouac et
moi and Des sommets pour rebondir are
two organizations that propose mountain
adventures to people undergoing cancer
treatment, whether they’re currently receiving
treatment, at the end of their treatment,
or diagnosed with late-stage cancer.
The goal is for these people to feel
re-energized with self-conf idence and
well-being, which is often affected during
long periods of treatment.
The Petzl Foundation donated €6,000 to help fund projects
from these two organizations.
