How do you adopt an auditor mindset? HL: We have put our buyers into situations that help them adopt this mindset. Ten main points were established, such as cross-checking information by interviewing multiple people, sharing best practices for improvement, reiterating our requirements, and suggesting solutions if needed.
Are suppliers open to observations and questions during visits? HL: We ve built strong, trust-based relationships with our suppliers over many years, so our observations are heard and appreciated. They understand our plan and the questions we need to ask. By offering continuous support, we ve been able to get our suppliers on board and committed to this trajectory.
Interview with Hélène Langlois, Commodities Purchasing Team Manager
What are the objectives of this training? HL: This training is centered around tools and techniques for CSR evaluation, in order to support our responsible purchasing plan. The objective was for trainees to learn to observe and analyze ethical, social, health/safety, and environmental topics from our code of conduct when visiting or communicating with our suppliers. We put this training to work by conducting internal audits at our three French production sites. This allowed us to identify strengths and areas for improvement in our CSR practices, and gave us a point of comparison for future audits.
What are the assessment criteria? HL: We have an audit template based on the four CSR pillars presented in our code of conduct. We make sure the supplier meets the 22 listed requirements.
