extended over time to define and track plans to reduce environmental impact.

At the same time, it is imperative for teams at Petzl to be able to identify the most polluting sourced components, so they can analyze propositions from different suppliers and purchase materials with the lowest impact. These analyses can be done with the LCA tool, which will be deployed and distributed to teams in 2023.

FUTURE ACTIONS

- Revise our Supplier Code of Conduct in 2023 to increase our ethical, social, and environmental requirements

- Integrate new suppliers into the evaluation process

- Propose internal and external audits to suppliers who have already performed a self-evaluation, which is the first step

- Continue to support our suppliers in decarbonizing our respective value chains

MEASURES

Measuring our carbon footprint in 2020 allowed us to identify the main issues we need to focus on to reduce our CO2 emissions. More than 60% of these emissions originate from purchased materials, transport of goods, and headlamp use. These are so-called indirect emissions linked to our supply chain. In order to reduce these emissions, close collaboration with each link in the supply chain is necessary. This means upstream collaboration: materials, services, energy sourcing, and transport from factories to our warehouses. And downstream collaboration: transport of goods to customers, purchase of recycling services. Sourcing plays a crucial role in activating the necessary mechanisms for decarbonization.

For our suppliers, the first step is to measure the impacts and understand where they originate. This is what Petzl did with our carbon assessment and LCA (Product Life Cycle Analysis). In 2022, Petzl provided a carbon assessment tool and helped ten strategic suppliers conduct their own carbon assessment. In their February 2022 report1, the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) released a study revealing that a supplier needs 12 to 24 months to familiarize itself with the process, refine its data collection, and report it.

Petzl launched this project to educate and support its stakeholders in 2022. Our support is continuous and will be
