It all began at
Castleton Tower
It was on this red sandstone tower in Utah
( USA ) that the idea of creating a foundation f irst
emerged . In 2002 , a property developer was
planning to close access to Castleton Tower in
order to build luxury accommodation Together
with the association Utah Open Lands Petzl
America organised a fundraising campaign and
contributed 10 000 in an attempt to purchase
the land surrounding this iconic North American
climbing site Climbers and outdoor companies
immediately rallied behind the effort Within a
few weeks the association had succeeded in
raising 400 000 and acquired the site Ac
cess to Castleton Tower has been preserved
ever since for climbers and lovers of wide open
spaces

Through ten emblematic projects , we look back on twenty years of
commitment in support of mountain communities and the vertical
world . These actions ref lect our areas of support : accident prevention ,
ecological transition , discovery of the vertical environment , and
employee volunteer engagement .
